Hi everyone. I am new to this group. I have been recalled following a routine mammogram. Apparently I have a cluster of calcium deposits in one breast. It was my 4th mammogram but I have never been recalled before!
Could deodorant have caused a false result?? I am sure I didn’t use any but there were no wipe’s available before the mammogram but radiographer said it would be fine. All equipment is cleaned in between patients - was her response when I asked for one?
Anyway has anyone else had this? I only have one area on one breast according to the BCN? I am due at the assessment unit on Friday but not sure what to think??
any advice Great fully received!.
Hello. I was recalled from my first mammogram in 2015 for two areas of breast calcifications. One area 10mm was DCIS the second 5mm was benign. I had surgery (lumpectomy =wide local excision) to remove followed my radiotherapy. Move was not hormone related.
So on Friday they will repeat mammogram doing more enhanced ones and compare with previous years, They sometimes do ultrasound too. Then they will probably do a biopsy and you should have appointment for results given to you, good or bad. I was recalled year 6 when back on routine for calcifications but they've been there since 2015 and their recent images needed to be enhanced to compare for stability. They were ok so sent in my way after repeat mammograms.
Deodorant wouldn't be cause but they arevery common and often harmless but they like to check them out . Good luck x
I'm 8 years on and I still remember being so scared waiting 3 weeks for appointment appointment and they refused to tell me anything about reason for recall. Glad they've given you reason for recall. It's really good you have previous scans for them to compare as they will look at these at your appointment . I initially had nothing to compare to. When I had my recall they did the one stop clinic in groups of 5. 2 ladies sent away after mammograms and doctor as they were happy nothing untoward. 3 of us had biopsy but we were all told what they were thinking which helped x
Hi Carol
They have given me some information which is good, but then I googled it and saw about deodorant!!! I just kept thinking what if a forget and used it and have got a false result!
I really appreciate your advice and thank you for sharing your story. I have never had a recall and was very shocked when I saw it!
Again. Thank you
Hi Carol.
Thank you so much for your message. Very thoughtful. It was ok. Medical staff were amazing. Not news to you after your journey but I saw consultant, mammogram, ultrasound and some biopsies. Results in 2 weeks. So now an agonising wait - you know how that feels! I have had itching and burning in that breast - I had no idea that both might be relevant until I mentioned it to one of the radiologists.
anyway all I can is wait now. A bit sore as I had a skin biopsy as well but thank goodness for the NHS.
thanks again Carol x
Hi Carol. It is so kind of you to think of me. My results were all clear. Just benign calcium deposits. Unfortunately my husband suffered a cardiac arrest at home on the Thursday after my appointment at the clinic. He survived, has had heart surgery and is now home and recovering slowly. . It has been an awful few weeks but without our wonderful NHS he would not be here. So we are grateful beyond words.
Thenk you for thinking of me- so very kind. I hope you and your loved ones are well.
