Hi all.i had breast cancer at 36.

My hair is so much shorter now on the the side I had radiotherapy,I'm feeling really low as its so much shorter then the other side.

I know I should be so grateful to have got thro the past past yr. But I can't wear my hair down or even wear it up.i feel so low xxx

Any advice would be great xx

  • Hi Csp

I’m on lextrazole rather than tamoxifen. My hair is very fine anyway, and now I have (what I think is) very noticeable hair thinning. I used to have quite long hair, but I felt that just made the thinning even more obvious, so after discussion with my hairdresser I took the plunge and tried a very short hairstyle for the first time ever.

I really like the result, a short style suits me a lot more than I thought it would, and the hair problems don’t seem anywhere near as obvious. If I’d hated it I was planning on buying a wig until it grew back,

It might not be the right solution for you, but it worked for me. One more thought, You’ve been through a lot since your diagnosis (it goes with the territory) and you say you’re feeling low, a chat with a counsellor or your GP might also help

    Good luck

  • Hi Csp85, sorry to hear you are having issues with your hair. Would it be easier to have your hair cut  so both sides match? Maybe a kind of pixie cut? It’s difficult not knowing how short the shorter side is.
I too am on tamoxifen and targeted treatment. My hair is only about a centimetre and a half as I lost most of it on chemo. It is very higgly piggly and is different lengths all round. I do get low days as I just want it to grow and be back to where it was (almost down to my boobs) so it was quite long before too. I think it’s going to take a long time to grow that far. I have wigs, scarves and beanie hat, whilst they help to hide my head and the bit of hair I have,  nothing is the same as having your own hair. I also look ridiculous with short hair which is why I keep it covered. To help I have been using a hair serum from uk lash. I also used their eyelash and eyebrow serums too which have help so much with them growing back to (link below for you) and I have also be drinking kefir which I think helps too. I’ve been told biotin is good for hair growth but I haven’t tried that yet.
