Hello. My lovely daughter was diagnosed yesterday. We are both feeling devastated and overwhelmed. I want to be there for her every step of the way but just don't know what to do. We all want to 'put things right' for our children when they have troubles, even when they are adults, but this time I can't.

So happy to have found this site.

  • Hello

I’m so sorry to hear of your daughters diagnosis. I was diagnosed in May and had a lumpectomy nearly 2 weeks ago. It still feels surreal and overwhelming but take comfort  in the support you receive. I’ve only just joined this group and am hoping it will help me in my journey

hope it’s the same for you and your daughter

love and hope to you x x

  • Thank you, Marina. I'm glad you've had your surgery and hope you are recovering. Very best wishes Pray x

  • You can help with the practical stuff. My mum has been a total star coming over most weeks helping with housework and taking me to appointments.  And just be there for your daughter.

  • Hi Cheryl2

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your daughter's diagnosis.  There is a family and friends forum that you can also join to het support from other family members whose loved ones are facing cancer.  Here's the link to that forum: Family and friends forum.

Wishing your daughter the best of luck with her treatment and you the best of luck as you give her the support she needs.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Cherry2, so sorry to hear this. As a parent we just want to protect our kids, no matter how old they are, and I can understand your feelings of helplessness.  But, there will be many things you can help your daughter with as she figures out her treatment plan.

MacMillan has some useful resources and I thought this link Supporting family and friends might give you some useful information. Best wishes to you both
