Just got diagnosis 3 days ago & full of fear about all that lies ahead. How does anyone stay positive?

  • Hi eli so sorry to hear you have joined the club no one likes to be in. There's no denying it's scary when you get your diagnosis and difficult to stay positive. You got this and will get through it's a rollercoaster but when you have the treatment plan you can focus on that. Dont use Dr google for advice it's better to use here as lots of us have gone through similar and can give advice based on experience.

    Take care stay strong xxx

  • Thanks for replying :) this forum was highly recommended so I’m feeling more positive just from joining x kindness is a great comfort, & helps such a lot coming from people in this same unpopular club!

  • It definitely does. I've found it a great source of advice and support. It's also nice to be able to share my experiences and give advice.

  • hHi Eli35

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  It's understandable that you are afraid of what's ahead of you.  While at times it's hard to stay positive if you don't it can drive you up the walls.  Treatment has come on a long way in recent years and is improving all the time.  I was diagnosed nearly years ago with triple negative breast cancer and since I've been diagnosed  there have been advances in treatment.

Try doing the things that you love to do as it can help take your mind off your situation for a while.  Get out in the fresh air even if it's only for a short walk as there is nothing like exercise to help with your mental health at a time like this.  If you haven't tried it why not; try some meditation.  There are loads of meditation apps you can download for free.  The best ones are Calm Radio and Breathe.

Remember to be kind to yourself and don't beat yourself up if you are having a bad day.  On those days why not treat yourself to something  nice.  You can come on hear anytime day or night if you want to talk to others who have been through or are going through treatment for cancer, even if you just want to have a rant.  There's an awake thread if you are finding it hard to sleep.  You are welcome to join the thread anytime day or night just hit the reply button and introduce yourself to the group.  It was started six years ago by a breast cancer patient who had trouble sleeping and it's seen people come and go over the six years.

Wishing you the best of luck with whatever treatment your medical team puts you on.

    Best wishes

    • It’s lovely to hear how supportive you’ve found it & I thank you for replying to me. I’ll be back! I hope you’re in a good place with your own experience now x
  • Thank you so much for your lovely advice, all things I’m trying to focus on. I’ve found meditation such a help over the last few weeks while waiting for tests & results. I’m quite new to it but relying on it heavily each day to calm down x

  • Hi Eli, remember these days breast cancer rarely kills. focus on yourself, distract yourself until you know the treatment needed and remember no one gets out alive, but more and more people survive this every year because treatments are more focused. hugs

  • Thank you Djct for such a positive message Blush it’s uplifted me on a wobbly day x hugs back to you & hoping you’re doing well Pray tone1
