Good morning everyone

Like everyone else on here I’m sure I’m no different in the worrying. Everyone tells me the waiting if the worst part. my cancer was picked up on ultrasound following calcification area which happened to be benign! If it wasn’t for the calcification though they wouldn’t have seen the 8mm lump on the mammogram at all. It was my first mammogram by the way - age 50.
so from what I understand I’m ER + HER2 - and I’ve had lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy. This was 3 weeks ago and no results as yet. I have widespread pain in my arms and legs and been putting all this down to menopause. Very worried now. Could do with knowing how much longer the wait is likely to be on the nodes biopsy. How long have others waited?

also my breast is hard and lumpy since having the lumpectomy . I expected soreness for 1-2 weeks they said but it’s very tender still yet not particularly bruised on the outside.

Hi Weeze welcome to the forum.  The results come back and dependent on when they do they go to a big meeting where all the NHS folks are there to discuss the treatment plan for you  and this may be the hold up with the results as the meetings usually only happen once per week I think. If you have not heard by the ed of next week I would be tempted to get in touch with them and see what is happening..

As to the pain and lumpy feeling that is usually how it feels at this early stage as they have taken a part of the breast tissue in the lumpectomy so whilst you may not be bruised much on the outside there will be extensive bruising on the inside and that is possibly why its painful and can take a while to settle down so 1-2 weeks is not a lot of time.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. For now though Im sending some gentle hugs your way. xxx

  • Hi  and a second welcome to the online community

Like you, my lump was found when I was recalled after a routine mammogram picked up an area of calcification that they needed to check. It was only when I had the enhanced mammogram followed by an ultrasound that the lump was spotted.

I had the results from my lumpectomy about 3 weeks afterwards but it largely depends how busy the pathology labs are in the area of the country that you are in. I can see you've posted elsewhere that you were told 4-6 weeks is the current wait time.

As you're worried about your breast being hard and lumpy since the lumpectomy, why don't you give your BCNS a call on Monday and talk this through with her. At the same time you could ask if your results are back yet in case they are.

    Keep us posted.
