DCIS Mastectomy

Hi I was diagnosed with DCIS in February and because of how extensive it was I had a skin sparing mastectomy in March . I had a Becker implant put in which I have found to be so uncomfortable and I had to have 100ml taken out because the pressure was unbearable !! After my dressings were removed after 2 weeks post op  there was a blood blister the size of a 10p which burst and has developed into a hole which now after 9 weeks of weekly dressings I’ve been told my implant has got to come out because of infection !! I feel devastated that I’m now right back at the beginning with the prospect of 2 further surgeries after this one .I’m also questioning myself as to whether I can face having the Becker implant put back in when the time is right ? I feel very lucky that in regard to my diagnosis I don’t need any further treatment but I seem to have hit a brick wall mentally and am just feeling quite low . Has anyone else got experience of this or the Becker implant ? Thank you x

    Hi

I'm sorry to hear that you've had trouble with your implant and that you are feeling low. My guess would be that you feel that you are not currently making progress in your treatment plan. Cancer care is not always a straight road and this is just a deviation for now. It's good news that you won't need further treatment but that may also be a factor in your frustration, as you may feel like you want the surgery done and dusted then back on with your life.

Take the positives and take your time to get well. I'm sure your team will guide you as to whether there are alternative implants or whether you even want an implant at all. There are no rules and you do what is best for you. Best regards.

    A x
