Hello all,

I had a mammoplasty op 11 days ago. My nipple was repositioned and two lymph nodes removed also.

for first six days I felt almost no pain and felt brilliant but since then, the pain hit me like a hammer and it’s constant. Feels like  everything was gouged out with a screwdriver Laughing - I can see no redness or fell heat, so hoping no infection, but did any one else feel like this? Just a shock to be so sore after a week of not being.
thanks for any insights.

  • Mine was very sore, bruised and swollen. I had to take the pain killers for 2 wks probably before it subsided. The healing process and trapped fluids in different layers probably causes it. My arm was painful as well, all the lymph nodes were taken out. I went back to the BC Nurse and had it checked a couple of times. Was told to do gentle massage and the exercises. Helps the circulation to the area and reabsorption of excess fluid and bruising. Hope that help? X

  • Thankyou. Yes arm is tender. Armpit really sore so will try massage (am pushing on with the exercise already - basic one anyway).

It’s a long way to go to get checked out (particularly as I’m not driving yet) so just needed to hear that this is ‘normal’ pain’

nb; how long did you take off work (if applicable) after this op?

    thanks for replying xxx

  • You can ring your Macmillan Nurse though. It took me a week or so to feel like going anywhere. I did start gingerly walking outside. Just felt I needed a bit of normality. Although avoided brushing up against anyone. I found distraction the best thing, TV and painkillers, adequate water to flush anaesthetic out of your system. Heal well. You are welcome. There is a lot if support. Ask the Nurses on here as well. My surgery was 6 th Dec. I have returned to dancing. I put weight on with taking less exercise. I don't really care about that just want to hold onto the muscle, it's hard at this age.
