Hello all

i was diagnosed at 19 in 2007 with Hodgkins Lymphoma- cured and Melanoma in May 2022 which I have my last appointment for next months (struggling with this as I like the reassurance as I health anxiety ! )

I have been referred to the breast cancer clinic last week as my left side breast has a thickening of the areola and is dry but not itchy or discharge and the Norse and me can not feel any lumps but due to my history they are getting me checked out.

can anyone help me with the next stages of the process please?

  • Hi Serephina2109

Welcome the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with two different cancers and are looking at being diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

What will probably happen at the appointment is that you will be examined by a breast cancer specialist and will have to answer a number of questions, like your date of birth and your health history.  You will be sent for a mammogram and depending on what the radiographer sees on the mammogram you will probably also have a ultrasound and a biopsy.  Then once the results come back you will have a further appointment with your breast surgeon to discuss the results of the biopsy.  You will be assigned a breast care nurse who you can contact if you have any questions before you see your surgeon.

Wishing you the best of luck with your appointment and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes

    1. Thanks Daisy - do you know how long it is to wait to hear for an appointment and between appointment and results? Thanks will keep you updated thanks
  • It usually takes a week or two to wait for an appointment depending on whether your GP asks for an urgent appointment and there is about a two week wait for an appointment to get your your results depending on how busy your hospital trust is.

  • Thank you for your help

  • Well I had my appointment for the 5th at 9.00am fingers crossed!

  • Hi Daisy

been to the clinic today and no lumps or bumps detected. Confirmed thickened of nipple but don’t think it’s related to breast cancer but any changes to be referred  back.

they don’t know what has caused it so thinking my next port of call is the GP again?

  • It’s good to hear that they didn’t find any lumps or bumps. Hopefully your GP. can sort you out.
