Hi I was diagnosed with st 3 breast cancer on 28th Feb, I’ve since had an mri where they found another lump in the same breast.
So today I’ve been offered either a lumpectomy with a reconstruction implant or a mastectomy, I’ve got to decide by tomorrow, really not sure what to do for the best, but thinking probably a mastectomy is the best option.
Feeling really scared and unsure, any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks xx

  • Hi Cazza25,

Welcome and sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I am not sure what to advice as I wasn't given the choice I was told I would need a mastectomy. I think being given the choice must be really daunting for you. If it helps though, I was told a mastectomy  because of the size and to make sure the cancer was all gone as they couldn't get a safe margin of clearance and also I would of been left disfigured he said. Have you spoken about all these sorts of things with your doctor? Xx

  • Hi Jenflower

Thank you for your response and I’m sorry to hear that you have had to have a mastectomy.
My doctor has said it’s my decision, so many pros and cons for both. If i choose the mastectomy i can have surgery next Wednesday, if I choose the implant it will be another few weeks.
To be honest I would just like it gone and to never return so possibly the mastectomy is probably my best option. Xx

  • I was given the choice but because my tumour was only 2.1cm and 1.8 after chemo my surgeon said I was good candidate for lumpectomy so that's what I decided on. I think if I had more then one tumour I would have gone for masecomy.

  • I felt like I wanted it gone straight away too as I had 5 lumps, 5.3 cm in size. I did struggle though with the thought of having breast removed but once done I have been fine. I think for a while having to have my breast removed took the joy away from getting rid of the cancer. Sounds crazy I know, but it's how I felt. Well I hope all goes well whatever you decide xx
