Hello everyone, I noticed a dimple in the side of my breast New Year’s Eve 22 booked a appointment with my doctor asap. Since then I’ve had various tests etc & on 15/2/23 I had a simple mastectomy. They removed a 10cm mass which I’ve been told is borderline for chemo! A sample of breast tissue has been sent to America for testing to see if chemo would work for me. I will be starting radiotherapy once the results are back. Has any one else had to wait for test results from America? Thanks for reading my post, wish you all well x

  • Hi...You certainly got your treatment quickly, I found my lumps Christmas Day, couldn't see Dr til 27th, got fast tracked but because of Christmas back log and then New Year I didn't even get appointment til 24th Jan! Finally diagnosed after tests etc on February 10th, Mastectomy booked for 23rd March. I have never heard of sending tissue to America maybe someone has. How ate you feeling after the Mastectomy? Xxx

  • Hi Shocked64

Welcome. To the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast.while I didn’t have a sample sent to America I know of others on here who have had a sample of their breast tissue sent to America see if they would benefit from chemo. Some of them needed chemo and others didn’t.

Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment whatever it will be.

    Best wishes

  • Hi, yes it all moved very quickly once seen by my GP , I live in Bucks not sure if different areas have different approaches! The mastectomy wasn’t too bad, quite shocked that it was a day procedure. But I was really happy to be back in my own bed. No stitches as they glued the wound and I didn’t feel a thing when they took the tape off. The thought of it being removed was worse lol I recommend you have front fastened PJ’s makes life a lot easier at the start. I started the exercises as soon as I felt able, I can now put my arm above my head which I’m told will be necessary for radiotherapy. I did have fluid retention as they didn’t fit a drain, but can honestly say I didn’t feel a thing when I went in for the wound to be aspirated. Look after yourself and listen to your body. Xxx

  • Thanks, I think I will just face whatever treatment that’s decided and get in with it! Xx

  • Glad to hear you're making progress. I was shocked to when I was told it was a day procedure! I have been told my surgeon does not use drains either. I agree with you about the thought of taking the tape off! I have tried to prepare as much as possible with front fastening pj's and shirts etc. I will do the excercises as soon as I can as you did to get mobile, I'm a terrible patient! It has spread to lymph nodes but won't know if I'll need chemo or radiotherapy til, they know how many are affected. If it's only 1 I may get away with hormone therapy but we will see. Its out of my habds!

Trying to search for positives in the negative.Hope you continue to improve and heal well xxxx

  • Hi shocked64

I had my tumour sent to America and am awaiting the results. I had a right breast mastectomy on the 7th Feb. From what I can work out, they send it off to America as they do the oncotype dx test which gives them a high or low result of the cancer re occurring. This then results whether or not I will need chemo. I hope everything goes well for you xx

  • Hi, I had a mastectomy on 15 th feb, and my tissue has been sent to America just awaiting for a plan of treatment

  • Hi yes mine was sent to America a week ago just waiting for the results

  • Thanks for your response, I hope you’re doing ok after your mastectomy I keep having trouble with fluid so have it aspirated on 4 occasions! Back at the hospital today & only have a small plaster on the wound now. Hope everything goes well for you xx

  • Snap I had my mastectomy on the 15/2/23, like you just waiting for the results! Hope your doing ok xx
