Hi everyone one is there anyone here that is waiting on a lumpectomy I’m due for mine tomorrow and I’m so scared
Hi I had this op in October I was okay afterwards you go home the same day, the nurses come every day to check your dressings at home. Just try to relax if you can all the best for tomorrow x
Hi Shamyshamybaby246 thank you so much for you reply I’m really pleased to hear all went well for you and wish you a very speedy recovery x
Hi Dinkydoo, I am in Wales, had a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy 10 days ago and am recovering well, a bit of pain/soreness in the armpit and deep within the boob but totally manageable with asic ibuprofen or cocodamol. Difficult to shower and keep dressings as dry as possible, here they tell you to leave the same dressings on if possible for 2 weeks then the breast care nurse removes them. Get to know if they got clear margins and if there is any spread to lymph nodes on 9tgh March. The waiting is way the worst thing, the op itself felt a bit of an anti climax tbh. Sure you will be ok, keep calm, take some earphones to listen to music or a podcast, there is a lot of hanging around and it helps distract you from the nerves.
Hi Bexfelin thank you for your reply so pleased your recovery is going well and I pray that your results will be all clear your right about the waiting it’s awful good idea about the earphones thank you so much wishing you good luck and great health for the future x
Hi Dinkydoo
I had my lumpectomy a while ago and it was one of the easiest parts of the treatment although I know everyone is different. I was the last to go down for surgery at about 2pm and was leaving hospital at about 8pm.
I was told to keep the dressing dry for 2 weeks until my appointment with the surgeon, the nurse then removed the dressing. You will also be given exercises to do which you will start as soon as possible.
Good luck with your surgery

Hi Dinkydoo
I had this operation 10 months ago. All the above is mostly true. Unlike shamyshamy my dressings weren't checked everyday. I had to remove dressings myself. If your arm and shoulder ste still sore either a nurse or relative can do it for you. There is lots of sitting around so take a book etc.
Hope your surgery goes well tomorrow.
Hi I had my lumpectomy and sentinel lobe biopsy yesterday and I managed to get out of hospital late last night. I have been a bit woozy today although the pain is uncomfortable, it is manageable with paracetamol. I took a book and listened to music to distract myself before the operation but to be honest the time passed quite quickly by the time I had spoken to surgeon, anaesthetist etc. Everyone’s experience is different but I would say mine was better than I thought it would be. I wish you loads of luck for tomorrow. Take care. X
Hi mrsmagoo really good of you to reply considering you’ve only just gone through it yesterday I hope your not in to much pain and will recover well and quickly I do hope my experience will be a good one too thank you for your kind wishes take great care x
