Hi, I'm new here. Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was totally shocked but am slowly coming to terms with it. I have breast conserving surgery and lymph node biopsy planned for 22nd Feb. I will then need chemo and radiotherapy. I was told it is grade 3 and triple negative but as yet don't know what stage it is. Before I found out, I had booked a holiday to Spain. The doctor said I can still travel but I cannot get any travel insurance because of the cancer. Has anyone else had this issue and been able to get any insurance?
Thank you
Sarah
Hi Sarah1970
I have recently used goodtogoinsurance.com to cover me for a holiday. However, my breast cancer treatment had been completed so i don't know if they will cover you at your stage.
You might also want to join the travel insurance group where you'll find recommendations from others who have been successful. Once you've joined look for the thread called 'recommended travel insurance' as this is where the majority of recommendations are.
It has been recommended in the past to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also, sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Hi latchbrook, thank you for your reply. I will join the group you have suggested and also take a look at the one you have used. I may have to wait until I've had the surgery, I did speak to one company on the phone but because I couldn't tell them what stage of cancer I have, they wouldn't go any further with the quote. Trouble is my holiday is booked for 21st March, so won't have much time to sort it out.
Thanks again x
In a similar situation last year, I found the easiest answer was to agree to a breast cancer exclusion with my existing insurer. Obviously there are some risks with that. But it meant things I had already booked before diagnosis were covered for cancellation if I needed to do that. And as I had already spent a lot on something I plan to do in autumn 2023, that was important. I am not currently in treatment (on 3 monthly scans / watch and wait) so can now travel. I will limit any travel I do to Europe for now.
