Mastectomy
Yola
There are lots of people on here who can tell you it’s ok. Often thinking about things can make it worse, but I know it’s hard not to.
Please be reassured- I can only tell you about my experience - it was all over so fast and home next day - I had a drain, due to full node clearance, so had to overnight. Hospital experience was so much better than anticipated. Everyone was lovely - no pain but meds given just in case.
xx
Hi and good morning. I am 5 days post mastectomy. I stayed in hospital overnight and came home with two drains as I have a wide excision. Hospital was fine, but I was glad to get home to my own bed. The pain has been minimal, despite the size of my wound. One of the drains is probably coming out today, so I am making progress which helps to make me feel better. Talking to someone who had a similar op in 2019, the advice was to do the exercises when able to (the hospital or district nurses will tell you when you can start them) and BE KIND TO YOURSELF! Just take each day, and each event in those days, as they come. Xxx
PS: for the post-op exercises I am using the BAPS app. I've loaded it onto my iPad and it's proving much easier this way to follow the programme.
Thankyou ,that’s helped me a lot,I think my fear of the unknown is making the experience so much harder,so knowing what to expect is helping so much & I hope you’re feeling much better Xxx
Hi & Good Morning,Thankyou, you’ve reassured me & knowing what to expect is helping a lot, also I hope you’re taking your own advice & being kind to yourself Xxx
Yola. Thank you for your reply. I do feel great now. xx
Hi Yola. I had mastectomy & removal of lymph nodes mid Oct last year. Day surgery. Never had any real pain, just discomfort. Given pain killers to help with exercises. I found under the arm took much longer to heal. Good excuse not to do any housework! I'm still doing exercises and my arm movement is almost back to normal. I've even cleaned windows today!! Good luck with your surgery x
Hi Yola, hope you're doing as well as you can be. Had my MRI Monday so every test has been done but on top of all the worry I have a really bad painful sore throat and cold just to make me feel better! Now I wait for next Friday can't come quick enough. Wishing you lots of luck with your surgery..sending love..you've got this hun xxxx
Glad that you are at home and everything went well! I am waiting for my operation too and feeling nervious.
Could I ask you exactely the app you are using for exercises?
Thank you!
