I’ve just joined after being diagnosed with breast cancer, I’m hoping to read your comments to gain an insight of maybe what I have to experience. I have stage 2 and they have stated I will have radiotherapy and oestrogen blockers,  they did mention chemo but do not think it has reached that stage, but as just been told there is a lot of questions I didn’t ask so I am writing them down. I look forward to reading other warriors journeys in the different chats x

  • Hi there, welcome & sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I was diagnosed with DCIS & IDC in October last year. I had a lumpectomy & sentinel node biopsy. My breast cancer is Grade 2, I was lucky as it was picked up on mammogram & caught early.

I await my oncology appointment, but know I need radiotherapy 18 sessions & hormone treatment for 5 years. I did not need chemotherapy as my Oncotype DX score was low at 15. This is a test done on the tumour that the surgeon removes. It is sent off to America for testing & takes a few weeks or so to come back. It’s a scoring that is given between 1and 50, the lower the score, the less likely you would need chemotherapy. I believe if it’s over 20 then chemotherapy would form part of the treatment.

Wishing you lots of luck on your journey x
