Hi...just been newly diagnosed I felt lump and saw GP referral then to breast clinic .Awaiting MRI but already know I'll be having chemo , surgery , radiotherapy..seems like a huge mountain to climb. I'm scared. Referral to oncologist tomorrow ,all this in 5 weeks !!

  • Hi I found a lump mid November by beginning of December I had ultrasound biopsy (breast and lymph nodes) CT scan was told it was breast cancer hadn't spread thank god and told I will be having surgery on 19th Jan for a mastectomy reconstruction and all my lymph nodes removed. MRI scan was done on 22nd Dec all clear and showed up what they already knew which was another relief. My heads been in a bit of spin too but the quicker it all happens the quicker we can get back to normal life not gonna lie I'm nervous as hell about my op but it needs to be done so I'm ready to face it head on and deal with whatever comes after it.

Try not to worry and think positive I've just been getting on with normal life as I have 2 young children and it's been a great distraction from everything.

You will be fine keep smiling and stay strong x

  • Thank you for that , I think when I know more about the cancer I'll feel better going forward.

  • It's good that it's quick, it's a shock but cancer is sneaky. I went to the Gp end of Oct, biopsys 2 wks later. Surgery 6 th Dec, results 6 th Jan. Just waiting for Oncotype DX to tell me if I need chemo, otherwise it's radiotherapy and hormone blockers. It's the uncertainty that gets me I think. The outcome looks good statistically, it's the best one to get, so many positives but it's still cancer. My son is Autistic and doesn't understand. It's good that something's carry on as normal. Although nothing feels normal. It will be good to be on the other side of this.

Thank you all for your openness. Life is worth fighting for although when in the middle of treatment and feeling weak might need some wise words from those further on. Better together. Purple heartPurple heartPurple heart

  • Hello, I too have recently been diagnosed with non-invasive DCIS. It all came about after my first routine mammogram. I've had surgery but unfortunately, they didn't get all that they wanted. At present weighing up the new options. It's a lot to take on board for anyone but stay strong and have faith in yourself that you will find your way through this time and there will be light at the end.

  • Hi there, I too was recently diagnosed with DCIS and IDC in my right breast. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node removal on the 1st December. Unfortunately they didn’t get clear margins from the DCIS, so I had a second op last Thursday.

I have an appointment next Weds for results and have been told I will need RT & Hormone treatment. My Oncotype score came back low at 15, I won’t need chemo. My lymph nodes were also clear thank god.

Still feeling sore and uncomfortable, but it’s a small price to pay x

  • Hi, thank you for your feedback. This week I've had a NM Bone whole body scan, then CT Thorax abdomen with contrast and seeing the plastic surgeons. in order to see if DIEP ( reconstruct the breast using fat from the abdomen) or do I consider a mastectomy? Such big decisions to make. They have also discussed checking my nodes (not sure when this will happen) due to see consultant next week. I'm really disappointed the first surgery didn't have a positive outcome but I suppose that's the risk with surgery. Can I ask what Oncotype is? Also, with you second OP did you have another reconstruction option, such as I have been given?

    However, all sounds positive.

  • The Oncotype DX is a test of the tissue from the breast cancer that is sent off to America. It gives a scoring that determines how likely a reaccurance would be after treatment. If it’s between 0 & 25 it is classed as being low and would also mean no chemotherapy.
I was never offered a mastectomy although I did ask about having one. My surgeon didn’t feel it was the right thing for me. I just hope that they have now cleared the margins and that I get a good result next week x

  • I get my Oncotype DX result on 31st Jan and meet the Oncologist. 3 wks to wait. Fingers crossed

  • I hope your results are good wishing you all the best xx

  • Hi Valleyside, thank you for the information. I wish you all the very best for next week.
