Hi everyone. I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with breast cancer. Having mastectomy on Jan 30th. I’m a strong person but am getting very little help from family. My husband won’t even wash a cup, and I find it very hard coping with everything plus HIS 2 dogs. I am very low and weepy which is not like me, and GP can’t see me for another 3 weeks. Any suggestions really welcome. Glad to be in this group. Thank you

  • Have you thought about finding a Maggie Centre for additional group/individual support. I found it so helpful. You should push for your Dr to see you sooner. I have been going through a very emotional time of late and am now taking a low dose anti depressant just to help balance Serotonin. We go through an awful lot on these journies and theres no shame in needing extra support.

Sorry your husband is being so selfish. Have you told him how you are feeling and told him what you need? Men often say we dont tell them. They need to know in simple terms what we want

  • The nearest Maggie centre is 25 miles away.,I have explained to him, but he says if you don’t like it you know what you can do. He’s too Ill to do anything. Not a nice man at all.

  • Do you have support from any girlfriends? I am so sorry you are having such a hard time. Easy to say but if that was my partners attitude i know what i would do! You need support not stress.  The Macmillan support line are very good to talk to

Is he ill? Is that why hes not nice? Perhaps he also needs support and men arent good asking for help. Will he open up to you if you ask about him? You may discover how you could help each other.
