Mastectomy and node clearance

I had a mastectomy and auxiliary node clearance on the 7th December, got postponed from 8th November coz I had a mouth ulcer...

I have so much I wanna scream about but don't know how to put it into words..

Surgeon said all went well, so other half is taking that as the all clear.  Tried telling him that just coz op went well don't mean cancer all gone.. should explain I'm a pessimist not an optimist

Huge argument tonite.. am 3 week post op and he said I'm fitting fit, he don't live in my body and understand the fight I have to stay awake recently.. maybe I should explain that Feb 2020 I had a mini stroke too.. so I'm not a simple case.

Dunno what I am hoping to achieve here but would like to chat to fellow breast cancer Mini stroke sufferers x

  • Hi Jnn1971, sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Your surgeon has said all went well, which is good. It’s difficult to know if the cancer is all gone until you have results and possibly other tests. have you had details of what type of cancer you have and whether it’s pr/er or HER2 positive ? Or any details of a plan? Maybe you are still waiting your results? I don’t have experience of a mini stroke but there maybe others who have had a similar experience. Your other half is possibly trying to stay positive for you and maybe finding it hard to cope too. Our journey is very difficult a rollercoaster of a ride with the waiting for results being the hardest. I think our partners/other half’s also find it difficult to go through things. They don’t like to see us suffer and they also deal with things differently. MacMillan offer support to both cancer patients and partners maybe speaking with them might help. I’m sure there are others here who have partners that have been the same and can offer advice how they have coped. The forum is a good place and if you can share more info on your diagnosis too we are all here to help, support and offer advice on our experiences.
Wishing you all the best for your journey.

  • I had surgery on 7 th Dec as well. My husband is trying to be positive as are lots of people. It's what they want for us I suppose. I get my results on 6 th Jan. All the lymph nodes were removed. The one they biopsied was positive for cancer. Being a pragmatist and Nurse all my working life, I think I know how this goes for me. I have read others stories and realistically there will be treatment of some kind. Just over a week to wait. We aren't cured until they say so I feel. Sorry can't comment on the stroke, ask them or the MacMillan Nurse on this site. Xx
