So I now got all my dates
tomorrow 21st pre op assessment
29th to have a radiology guided clip
11th jan 2023 different hospital to have a radioactivity injection
then 12th jan off to another hospital for my lumpectomy and he taking some nymph lodes from my arm pit.
its know hitting home that I have breast cancer , I’m scared, angry and a needle phobia,
what questions do I need to ask tomorrow, oh shall I go with the flow and just let them do everything that needs to be done?
Hi, apologies … there is a gremlin in my account, and my reply was for someone else. However, I was going to reply to you also.
it’s good that you have your dates. Yes, it is very scary, and I’m sorry that you are facing this. I haven’t got a needle phobia, but I did sometimes close my eyes, and put my earphones in, with some music, whilst the team did what they had to do. I went straight onto chemo, so ai did ask questions about that, but I didn’t ask much about the subsequent surgery … I just went with the flow with that one, but we are all different.
Hi
The preop is just about getting baseline observation and a history. The blood test results are I suppose routine for this type of op. It did pick up one or 2 things I need to question. I hate needles, I usually tap my foot or use some distraction technique.
I had my op for lumpectomy and all lymph nodes removed 2 weeks ago. It is painful but improving. The arm exercises are not easy, the arm doesn't lift as high as the other one. Maybe it gets easier when the swelling goes down. I'm just waiting for my results and plan for what's next. They put some clips in to guide chemo or radiotherapy I don't know which.
Just trying to work out how to do this, I don't think people know how to treat you. They don't know what it's like. I went to a little party on Sunday and someone has come down with Covid. I have been isolating myself but it's not easy to live that way.
Don't know if this has helped. Good luck , they can put numbing cream on if you are scared of needles. Used to ask for that for my son. Xx
