This time last week I was recovering from lengthy surgery- left breast mastectomy DIEP reconstruction. A lot can happen in a week. Today I Had the last drain removed. During the process you’ll have different ways in coping. Before surgery kept busy working, then took a week off prior to surgery I spent time in house cleaning getting ready for Christmas.

now I’m finding it difficult not being able to do anything. Yesterday I got told off by my adult children for moving a few plates in the kitchen. I had a meltdown, uncontrollable crying. The  concerned face on my two year old granddaughter stooped me in my tracks.

Hoping for a better weekendWeary

  • Hi Bev

So sorry to hear about your cancer and subsequent operation.

I had the same procedure 6 weeks ago so can appreciate your frustration with not being able to do anything, especially when you are used to being busy.

The healing process is very important, your body needs time to heal which is why I was told 6 to 12 weeks recovery. Me being me thought that a day out Christmas shopping after only 5 weeks was a good idea, it wasn't! Learn to let others do things, accept that is how it is for the first few weeks.  I now refer to myself as queen of the sofa if people ask if I am doing too much. Tears are normal, we've all been there. Give yourself time and don't feel guilty about what you can't do. Instead enjoy spending the time doing things you wouldn't normally have time to do, watch that TV series, read that book...

Enjoy your weekend with your feet up, sending hugs
