Six months into my Journey with Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer.  Three Ops ending in Mastectomy.  Now very confused and worried about side effects of Zoledronic acid and Abedmaciclib which has been offered after Radiotherapy.  Terrified of making the wrong decision as to wether to accept them or not.

Anyway, pleased to meet you and wish you all the best with your journey. x

im part way through my treatment - so I share your fears.  I’m also a nurse, so caveat my answer with that as my viewpoint may be that of someone with some medical Knowledge.

One of the drugs you’ve mentioned will block hormones that feed cancer so why would you consider not taking it, and the other will

protect your bones so again, why would you opt out?

grab what they offer and live your life!!! Sending positive vibes your way lovely lady xxx

  • Thank you Sharon,  your comments make sense to me and I’m going to ask for more information as I feel my ontology appointment was rushed.   my surgeon and usual oncologist who has a special interest in Breast Cancer was not present..  In fact I was told by my nurse that my case was missed at the MDT meeting although I was on the list so they had to have a quick meeting to decide my treatment as I waited in the next room.  I’m dwelling on that now and it concerns me that it was a little too rushed.

I wish you well with your treatment, best wishes  x

  • Hi, I finished radiotherapy about this time last year and am due my 3rd zoledronic acid in a few weeks. I've had very few side effects from the zoledronic acid. Hope this helps

  • Hi Irishgirl, Yes this does help, thank you for sharing your experience of Zoledronic acid, I very much appreciate it.  Best wishes.

  • Like others, I was always going to take everything they threw at me to give myself the best chance of long-term survival.

I'm on hormone therapy and zoledronic acid, and my main treatment was chemo, lumpectomy and radiotherapy.

The hormone therapy is tough as it put me into a sudden medical menopause, which has been intense but has significantly settled. Side effects are gradually easing. It' been 2 years since I first started it.

I barely notice the zoledronic acid, other than a dip in mood for about a week afterwards. I have my 4th coming up. I've had a root canal treatment since starting with no issues, and I don't have any pain or fever with the infusion itself.

  • Hi Beatthebreast,  That is so reassuring to know that Zoledronic acid is having little affect on you, especially regarding root canal treatment.  The potential jaw side effect has scared me a great deal.  I’m coping with the hormone therapy well so far, just a few hot flushes. I’m beginning to realise how important it is to get information from others experience.  I’m so grateful to you for sharing your experience.  I wish you all the best for the future x
