Just been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma with 2 suspicious lymph nodes. Biopsy of nodes taken yesterday. Operation in about 4 weeks. Any advice on my treatment timeline would be good so I can plan Christmas, or not and work, or not??

  • Hi Bubble, sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I too had IDC. Mine was grade 3, ER+/PR+ & HER2 positive. If you click on my name you will be able to read my biography which includes my dates. Not sure how dates compare with other peoples. I have been off work since my first operation recovering, exercising and taking things easier. Haven't tried driving yet as after lymph node removal arm has been more sensitive and sore. Depending on how things go with chemo, I hope that I will be able to go to work in between but it all depends on how I feel. Everyone's journey is very different and once you have your results and a care plan in place it will be easier hopefully to plan things. Waiting for the results is difficult, but keep busy and ask for help and support. If you continue to chat on the online forums you will find others going through similar treatments too and they can give you their support, advice/experiences.

  • Hi Bubble - you’ll have your op and then you have to wait 6-8 weeks for healing before any radiotherapy.
my lymph nodes were removed during my lumpectomy and 1 was found to have some cancer in it. They then sent that node to USA for oncotyping which gives you a “recurrence”

score.  My score was 10 which is at the low end, hence I didn’t need chemo.

  • Thank you read it all, very helpful.

  • That’s encouraging. Thank you for your reply

  • Operation booked for 6th January. Any useful advice? X
