Hi
I am 5 days post op mastectomy and confused, scared and don’t know what happens next
Hi Caramba,
Sorry to hear your confused and scared. Have you not been given a care plan that you will be following? I would think you will have a follow up appointment with your consultant/surgeon to discuss any results from your op & care plan. Maybe give your BCN a call on Monday to discuss and perhaps they can help you with arranging a follow up appointment.
It is a scary and anxious time but you are not alone. We have all gone through the same feelings. Try and rest to enable a speedy recovery and ask family and friends for help and support you. The forums are good as their are many people going through the same/similar journey and its lovely to be able to discuss things with them. Once a care plan is in place this should help make things a bit easier as you know what is happening.
Take care, hugs from cuffcake x x x x x
I agree with cuffcake2000. I had a discharge letter that I went home with, and one was being sent to my GP.. The BCN is there to offer advice and can check what is written on your notes. I came out with drains and remember how scary it was. I continue to take one day at a time. Take care xx
Hello, sorry to hear you are feeling confused & scared, it is a very difficult time.
When I was discharged from hospital I had a follow up appointment with my surgeon already book about 2-3 weeks so they could review the surgery & give histology results. Hopefully you have that ? If not speak to your breast care nurse
Also I was speaking to breast care nurses daily to give a reading from my drains & could discuss any concerns with them. Hopefully you are doing the same ?
Try and get plenty of rest, it's a big op & I know I felt tired.
Ring your breast care nurse/team if you are unsure of what should be happening etc
Take care. Best wishes x
Thank you for your reply. I’m sorry to say I have had no contact with the BCN since my diagnosis on 5th Oct. Hospital was brilliant surgery went very well. I’m going back every other day at the moment to have fluid (blood) drained from the wound. I was told by my surgeon Wednesday that I would be discussed in the next MDT round next Wednesday. Hopefully I will be told about test results and what happens going forward
