Hello just a few questions. I have been told approximately 2 weeks to see consultant who will give me operation date for lumpectomy. How long are people in hospital? How long before radiotherapy starts ? Supposed to be going away to columbia big family holiday middle of December has anyone travelled whilst had cancer . Thank you.
From my consultation to my mastectomy it was 4 weeks. I stayed overnight as I was having a reconstruction and I was last on the list for the day. They don't start chemo or radio until you are healed enough and my chemo was about 10 weeks after surgery.
Hope that helps but remember everyone and everywhere is different and you are having lumpectomy not mastectomy
This takes time I am now realising and like you I just thought it would be over to my timetable... how wrong I was !!
I had a lumpectomy earlier this year. The operation was 3 weeks after I saw the consultant. I didn't need a stay in hospital and saw oncologist to find out treatment plan about 5 weeks later. As there were micro deposits in one lymph node I'm currently having chemo.
I was due to go on a long distance holiday about 3 weeks after my surgery but was advised against this by my surgeon because of the risk of DVT. I would advise you to speak to your consultant about your planned holiday and don't forget to keep your travel insurance company in the loop.

Hi.
I think it depends on the hospital trust and which operation is scheduled. I was 4 weeks from diagnosis to left breast mastectomy and lymph nodes removed. Then 6 weeks after that I started 16 weeks of chemotherapy and then a 5 week break and radiotherapy and now hormone therapy. I don't think they like to give a plan until after surgery and pathology decides what happens next. I've not been able to plan a holiday until now which is over 9 months on . Hoping you can get more information from your breast cancer nursers x
