Hi I'm new to the group. I had a lumpectomy on the 7th of June they found the cancer in 1 of my lymph nodes. So I had the oncotype test thankfully I didn't need chemotherapy I've had 15 rounds of radiotherapy. Is it normal for my breast to feel rock hard in places. And when should I go back to work my sick note runs out on 4th October.

  • Hello.  Sorry you find yourself here.  I'm 7 years in from treatment and from reading on this forum the range of side effects is varied,  I didn't have hard patches but I had skin breakdown underneath my breast as I'm. G cup so had skin on skin burns.  Everyone's RT is unique to them and  I'd say any concerns speak to BCN.

Regarding work.  I suffered fatigue after radiotherapy and went back 3 weeks after it ended.  It was too soon.  I was shattered not just physically but mentally too,  I broke my foot 2 weeks later so in plaster for 6 weeks.  I worked from home the last 4 weeks and found returning to work easier then.

  • Hi Carol thank for your reply. I have a large breast and had some burns under it I'm struggling to wear a bra for more than a couple of hours. I'm going to take your advice and ring my BCN .                                     Barbara

  • I used long panty li ears under my bra to keep area dry and stop friction.  My BCN laughed when I saw her but the special dressings she'd given me pulled the skin off.  She gave me cream for burns too and it cleared up quite quickly.  Bra expanders off EBay are good for using with bras to stop any tightness but I wore post surgery bras during day  for months as so soft inside then switched to the stretchy step into bras to sleep in.
