  • Hi,

Hope you’re ok with going back in, annoying they couldn’t get all out.
I had a mastectomy and lymph nodes in armpit removed. This now was back in April. I still am numb around my left side including armpit, arm.
the drain was huge! I did not prepare for it to be the so big and the wires, so annoying .
I used a side bag to carry it all in, I had mine in for two long weeks. Gets heavy once fills up.
get some good rest on the weekend and hope all goes well Raised hands tone2

  • Hi Shazz, I think it happens more often than we imagine. Better to go in again and remove it all though you'd rather not be in this position. If you are having lymph nodes removed see if you can get a mastectomy cushion from Jen's Friends charity or your BCN if they make them locally. Lymph node removal feels a little bit like you are being poked in the arm pit and is the most annoying part of the surgery. As your nerves to your breast are severed in lymph node surgery your breast should be relatively not uncomfortable. You will have a drain and the hospital often provides drain bags to carry them around in until removed. Often they are removed after a few days or so. Keep up with your exercises too when you are advised to start them and stick with them according to the routine. You may still be doing them at 2 or 3 months post surgery but is so important to maintain your arm and shoulder movement. Wishing you lots of luck for your surgery and complete removal this time x
