I’ve always been anxious but after cancer diagnosis it has gone into overdrive. My diagnosis came after a breast screening. I had no symptoms. Now I’ve been told that I have invasive lobal carcinoma and that I have to come off HRT. Double whammy. Im so frightened don’t know if I’m going to be able to cope. Has anyone else been there and how did they deal with it
thank you xxx
Hi Harkness welcome to the club no one wants to join. You'll find lots of friendly support on here and we've all been through something similar to you. To read my story you can click on my name.
I found that the early days were the hardest as it all seems so new and uncertain, but once I had a treatment plan I felt better as I knew what I was dealing with. It sounds as if your cancer might have been caught early, which is good. Best wishes with the coming days and weeks
Hi. Sorry to hear that you are going through this. I was diagnosed after a routine mammogram with lobular breast cancer. I have a fear of hospital's and like you was struggling with high anxiety. I found speaking with the breast cancer nursers about the anxiety before any appointments helped. I was prescribed disxepam for some appointments and was also able to allow my partner into some appointments. I managed to get through all the fears using breathing techniques which I found on the web too. There's also ways they can arrange appointments so your not waiting all day too. I hope this helps you a little today. It feels overwhelming at times but you will come out the other side. Sending hugs xx
Hello Harkness
I was diagnosed in February, have always struggled with anxiety and also had to go cold turkey on HRT. To help with symptoms I was prescribed venlafaxine which has really helped. It's an anti anxiety/depression medication but also helps with menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes. Perhaps you could ask about the possibility of you going on this?
Xx
Hi Harkness,
So sorry to hear that you are feeling so anxious.
I have just discovered that I have breast cancer again after 4 years.
I am going for a CT scan tomorrow to see if it has metastasised.
My anxiety is through the roof too.
I'm going to go for a long walk as I've been sitting here for hours researching. Thoughts are racing, emotions are all over the place.
It's so hard but we will cope.
Sending you my very best wishes.
X
Hi Harkness
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer and that you have to come off HRT. Have you considered counselling, I had counselling while undergoing treatment for breast cancer last year and I found it a help. If that's a road you would like to go down you can ring the Macmillan helpline and they can arrange 6 free sessions of counselling for you. Their number is 0808 808 00 00.
Hopefully you'll start to feel better once your treatment plan is in place.
Best wishes
