I have my oncology appointment Thursday to discuss chemo I think as have it in my lymph nodes, any advice on questions??
When will you start?
What chemo and how often?
Can I have a PICC line or port?
What are the side effects?
How are the side effects managed?
Can I cold cap?
Do you have an exercise programme I can access during chemo?
Who do I call if I have concerns about symptoms from chemo?
If your chemo is after surgery then this next bit is not relevant...
When will I be monitored to see if its working or not? How many cycles of chemo or weeks?
How often will I be scanned?
How soon will I get results to make a plan after the scans to assess progress?
Will I have surgery at the end or midway through my chemo?
Will I also need radiotherapy?
I am not sure if I can think of other questions but I am sure that others will have advice too.
Good luck with your treatment. xx
Hi Penelope1234567. I'd suggest taking someone with you to the appointment as it's hard to remember everything. I'd also take a notebook and write it all down. And ask for clarity if you don't understand. I found it was a lot to take in. Best wishes
You are right about the notebook - I wrote down my questions and the answers. I also had pages at the back where I wrote down top tips on how to deal with different chemo symptoms/ cancer issues. It was so handy to refer back to as and when.
Thank you, alll of this is so overwhelming and makes it seem so real
Hi, for me it was totally overwhelming at first, and from reading about others, I think that's normal. It did get a lot easier once the uncertainty was gone.
If you want to have a read of my blog, you can see how I managed. Blog link
good luck
Thanks, you have been through so much, I will get all the information hopefully tomorrow and will be back on here for more guidance I think. It mind blowing, sometimes I just wonder how did I get here.
