Hi everyone .. Was happily getting on with life and then things all turned upside down - went for a routine screening to be told I have breast cancer - I am grateful that it was discovered but petrified of what lies ahead

diagnosed with invasive lobular cancer - ER+ HERS- , large tumour , 1 lymph node also has cancer - upcoming surgery ( in 10 days time )  mastectomy with DIEP reconstruction and a node clearance.

Feel as if have spent the last 2-3 weeks consistently in hospitals getting scans and test - feeling pretty overwhelmed !!

Still aboard the emotional rollercoaster whilst trying to understand all the information being given to me !!

Think i have come to terms with the mastectomy and reconstruction - however not convinced about a complete lymph node clearance - very worried about this - anyone else had this ? Is this the only option ?

  • Hi

I was diagnosed with the same as you,had therapeutic  mammoplasty on 16th June, and full lymph  node clearance, cancer was in 2 nodes.

Breast surgery was not as painful as I anticipated, lymph nodes removal was quite sore.

Attended physio twice, for exercise s,which helped

Waiting for oncodx results, getting them this Fri to see if I'll need chemo  and radiotherapy or just radiotherapy, then Herceptin for 10 years

  • Thank you for your reply … good luck with the oncodx results - hopefully it is low and you can avoid chemo . From what I have read I think that is a good result !!

Did you come home with drains still attached ?

  • Yes,I had 2 drains

They were both removed 5 days later,at the hospital

T scar took a while to fully heal, but no problem s with it,just used gauze to protect it,which I got off my gp
