Hi

  • I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. I am due to have my lumpectomy on 11th Aug. Although I am a little anxios about the surgery, I find I am worrying more about the radiotherapy treatment after surgery. Can. Anyone tell me of any side effects I may experience from the radiotherapy. Thank you
  • Hiya!

I had a lumpectomy in March and finished radiotherapy 6 weeks ago. The process itself is painless, but my breast was really itchy and sore afterwards (I have really sensitive skin so it wasn't a huge surprise to me). I spoke to the radiotherapy nurses and they gave me some cooling gel pads which were great. There are loads of moisturisers that are good so make sure you invest in one. I used Tropic Skincare Calm Balm and other moisturisers from MooGoo. I can send links if that helps?

The only other issue was tiredness, but as I work from home it was manageable. From my point of view the worst thing has been Tamoxifen as it made me feel really sick to start with. Luckily, four months down the line I'm starting to tolerate it better.

    All the best xxx

  • Radiotherapy was fine.. a but tired afterwards but not too bad.  I have some shoulder and neck pain 3 weeks on because they also radiated the supra claviclular node in the neck but I expect it will resolve in the coming weeks.

    Good luck xx
