I had a mastectomy 22nd November 2021 Radiotherapy followed in February 2022 which was difficult as I was very burnt. I am now left with very tender skin and a quite a large "Dog Tag"
Hopefully this will be removed in August. In the mean time I find it very difficult and uncomfortable to wear a bra. I am a big girl double G !!! My self esteem is low and I only like meeting close friends and family.
Any underwear tips would be gratefully received
Hi Browneyes welcome to the forum and sorry to hear what is happening for you. There has been lots of discussions in this forum about exactly what it is you are asking and one of the areas to have been discussed is the bra fitting service available from Marks and Spencers for ladies who have had a Mastectomy.
Im sure others will be along soon to give you their knowledge and expertise of tried and tested bras.
Hi Browneyes, I too had a mastectomy in Nov abd finished radiotherapy in Feb this year. I was lucky as the burning wasn’t too bad but I have a hard tissue where radiotherapy was done abd a seroma which we are hoping will reduce, I think it it buts it’s really slow and I have a blob of skin that needs removed where my left breast was, right beside my other boob. I have tried several bras and prosthesis and I prefer my Lorna Jane bras abd I like my mean bag boobs, I have two. I like the weight as I feel like I have something there but it’s not too heavy but I am still not 100% balanced, the gap at the chest wall is obvious but I am learning to live with it. To begin with I wore bra, prosthesis abd a scarf to hide my boobs, now I am ok without the scarf but on some days my trusty scarfs come out as it just helps make me feel more normal. I was adam that I didn’t want reconstruction as I had had enough and I am still happy with my decision but hoping that I will have improved look as the seroma reduces. I have sore skin/tenderness stil around my ribs and chest wall and my oncologist and surgeon said it just takes time to heal completely. I am going to try a massage this weekend to see if this helps with lymphatic drainage and the tenderness as have read that it can.
fot the burnt skin I was given Silvadiazin Solver cream and I used it for 2 weeks and it worked a miracle, I had to use a new tube every 7 days but it was really good, though turns your skin black so everything gets dirty but it really helped with the burns.
Good luck with the healing Xx
