Hi, never posted anything before, hope I'm doing it right. Had lumpectomy 3 years ago followed by radiotherapy. Found another lump 2 months ago which turned out to be scar tissue. Had my annual mammogram two weeks ago and haven't had results yet. Feel really scared, too afraid to ring but just waiting is awful.
I was in this position I e year but decided to ring as the results don't change by being given over phone or letter. Be aware when I rang told my results were there but a BC nurse had to give them to me. I said "oh it's bad news then" and she said no just protocol. The BCN rang 5 minutes later to say they were fine just a delay in sending out results. I had letter giving all clear months later !
Hello Hippo nanny, I had my annual mammogram two weeks ago too and was advised that the results were likely to be delayed by a week or so due to the Jubilee bank holiday, so not to expect them back for 3 weeks. Waiting for results is never good but it could be that your results have been delayed for the same reason as mine but worth calling them if you are worried. Hope your results are ok x
Thank you so much for replying, one of the the worst things about going through this is feeling so alone, I didn't want to talk to my husband as he worries so much and is recovering from a heart attack. I'll just have to be patient and hope for the best. I hadn't thought the long bank holiday would delay things.
Thank you for replying to me, I hadn't realised that results could be delayed because of the long Bank Holiday. I'll give it a few days before ringing them. So pleased you had the all clear.
Hi Daizy03
just jumping in I’m waiting for results of third year mammogram been waiting two weeks . I wanted to let you know that after my first year I had to ring to get them . I rang unit first and got nowhere so rang my BCN who asked me to ring on following day at a set time she took call and went to unit to look at screen and check with staff .
She gave me results over phone and said my mammogram had been sent to surgeon for him to send out ….she spoke to him and low and behold they were then sent out
I would ring unit and if you get nowhere ring BCN explaining it is worrying you I’ve no doubt she will sort it out
best wishes
I hope you get results soon. Horrible waiting. I had 1st annual mammograms in May & results came back within week which panicked me - thankfully all clear. The radiographer told me I’d hear within 2 weeks if there was anything of concern & if I hadn’t heard results would get to me eventually! Good luck.
Unfortunately im unable to get through to the breast nurses. We have to call the admin first, who takes the message and gives it to the nurses who then are meant to call back in 2 days. Which never used to work anyway. But now it’s worse. Admin said 3 nurses have left the unit including our breast nurse. So there is no allocated breast nurse, and other nurses are busy with other patients in clinics. She said she will make a note for the nurses but can’t do anything else.
it’s just very stressful as she told me it has not even been reported yet. So no one’s actually looked at it.
my colleague who had a routine mammogram in the same hospital in the portable cabins had it 2 weeks after mine, and she already received the results. It’s strange how patients already had cancer are being treated this way (assuming everyone who attends the clinic for mammogram has to wait this long).
That’s awful. They must know how worried people are at this stage. I’m obviously very lucky being under care of Royal Berkshire hospital. Here you leave a message for BCN team & they check throughout Day & call back within 24 hours but usually same day. Hope you get a call soon.
