  • HI Bezza, I had my operation two weeks ago and I'm waiting to hear the results of the biopsy on the sentinel lymph nodes. I'm not sure whether I need radiotherapy but I think I will be having hormone therapy. Hopefully, we will both know fairly soon what we're facing.

  • Hope so im not good at waiting wishing you a good result.

  • Hi Bezza

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. While everybody's experience of radiotherapy is different mine wasn't too bad.  The only side effects I had were a sore throat and some redness on my collarbone.  i was given a mouth wash to take for the sore throat and I used cream for the small burn on my collarbone.

When you have your initial appointment with your radiologist they will explain the possible side effects to you and they will probably give you a leaflet to take home with you which will explain the possible side effects and what you can do if you get them. You will have an initial scan of your chest area before your radiotherapy starts so that they do the measurements they need for the radiotherapy and you will be given a couple of small tattoos so that they know where to direct the beam. You'll hardly notice them. Also if you have any questions for your radiologist ask away as they only to be too happy to answer them.

There is a radiotherapy thread on this forum which you can look at and ask any questions you may have about any aspect of your radiotherapy and the ladies on it will only be too happy to answer them.  The following is the link for the thread: https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/breast-cancer-forum/f/questions-about-diagnosis-and-treatment/236958/april---august-2022-breast-cancer-radiotherapy#pifragment-13906=4

Wishing you the best of luck with your radiotherapy.

    Best wishes
