Hello, I have a pleural effusion.. after a battle with bilateral breast cancer. I am going for a Ct scan tomorrow ( I had X-ray 3 weeks ago confirming an  effusion)

what happens now? Does anyone know? I know I will have a drain etc after the MDT meeting.. but what is the treatment and time scale??
I hope it’s not another month to go by??
thanks

  • Hi Ann,

I don't have experience to share with you on this, it sounds like you've had another 3 weeks of the no-mans-land and I do know about that. I hope your CT is uneventful tomorrow and they get the information they need to treat you effectively. Hopefully another will be along shortly to share their knowledge with you. Fingers crossed the follow up is soon. Kate x

  • Hi Ann

I was recently admitted to hospital with Pleural Effusion. (I was so breathless I could barely tie my shoe laces)

I had fluid drained off 3 times whilst in hospital (2 Pleural aspirations and a medical thoracoscopy)

I had Breast cancer but the Pleural Effusion and biopsy results were not favourable in my case.

As far as the timeline is concerned with the chest drain I think it would depend on the amount of fluid that needs to be drained.

The best ppl to ask though are the doctors that have diagnosed this. However, if it is making you feel exceptionally uncomfortable and you are breathless, you should think about going to A & E.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi Jazz, sorry to hear you’ve had a horrible time.. I hope you’re feeling not too bad just now.

I am breathless but can go about my normal day to day stuff, but not working!

hopefully will find out more after the CT scan today.

I’m pretty sure the outcome will not be favourable for me.. so will just hang in there, until I know the results.

I will keep in touch and let you know what’s happening!

Thanks for taking the time to reply

    Ann x
