Hello everyone,

I just want to give a little warning. two and a half years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer, had mastectomy, chemo and radiotherapy and since then on Letrozole (Femara), an aromatase inhibitor. So that's for the past two years no3w.
I've always eaten healthy, have no high bloodsugar and cholesterl was always inbetween healthy levels, I had it checked every two years.

I was in total shock when last month my cholesterol level was a whopping 8.6. which is an extremely high and deadly level. Normai level is under 5. Turns out this is often caused by aromatase inhibitors. It was a shock and I am really angry that nobody warned me about this. I have probably been on this level for the past two years and can only imagine the damage to my arteries.  I am now on statins to try and get it down.

So if you are on aromatase inhibors, please have your cholesterol checked regularly.

  • Hi , thanks for sharing this, it gives me a spur on to contact my GP re a medication review, which I’ve never had since starting on Anastrozole, another aromatase inhibitor, over 3 years ago. It’s been on my ‘to do’ list for ages to request a review so maybe I’ll finally do it! I’d also like to know my oestrogen levels as I’d find it reassuring if they’re really low as that’s the aim of popping these pills. Would be some compensation for all the side effects, to know they’re doing their job!
Hopefully your medication will bring your cholesterol down now, but you’ve highlighted such an important point about lack of monitoring. Love and hugs, HFxx
