Feeling anxious

Hi everyone, diagnosed on 18 March with breast cancer. Operation was cancelled on 11 April as my blood pressure was high. Originally was a lumpectomy. They don’t think it’s spread to lymph nodes. It is all positive. There was a mix up with my care so I am meeting a new surgeon today and feel really anxious. I have been really strong so far so don’t know what’s wrong with me today! There is a chance I’m now having a mastectomy. I’m a plus size lady and have been looking and can’t even find a mastectomy bra in my size!

  • Hi Locky,

Hope all goes well with your meeting today and you come out with a plan.

I am nearing the end of my chemotherapy with a mastectomy still to follow but I definitely remember the time before starting treatment as when I was most anxious - it was fear of the unknown that was difficult for me.  So I am sending big support vibes to you for today but it’s perfectly ok to have a wobble every now and then, we are still only human.  Sorry I don’t have any practical help on the bra front but I am sure someone else will.

  • How did the appointment go?

As for bras, they are there, but sometimes not easily found. The hospital where I am being treated at has someone who specialises in bras and wigs, she is absolutely fantastic. Is there something like this available where you are? If not, and if no one here comes up with a better idea, perhaps the Macmillan helpline nurses know of a good manufacturer for larger sizes.

  • Hi I found this site for post mastectomy bras as I need the bigger size too. Hope your appointment went okay today. Sending hugs. Jxxx

  • Hi Tis, thank you for your support. The meeting went really well and surgeon confirmed I am having a lumpectomy plus the lymph node biopsy on 12 may. As long as it’s not spread will be radiotherapy as well. I am upset I was misinformed due to the stress I’ve felt but just glad I’ve now got a date and plan.
My friend had chemotherapy and a mastectomy 4 years ago and looks brilliant.

I am sending you virtual hugs and you’ve got this.

I'm glad you got some answers....

I'm from the US....nice to meet you.....

  • Hi there, just a bra idea - you could remove the underwiring from one of your regular bras so that you are comfortable. A comfortable soft front fastening sports bra would do just as well as a mastectomy bra if you are having a lumpectomy.

  • Hi Locky I’m so pleased for you getting better news. Thank you for replying and letting me know the outcome. Sending you virtual hugs and kisses too and I really hope your operation goes well on theHeart12 th of May. JxxxHeart
