Hello iIm new to this - I was treated for breast cancer 2020/2021. I had a lumpectomy, removal of sentinel lymph and targeted radiotherapy, which i completed May2021. I am on anastrazole for 5 years and my first mommogram post treatment was clear.

I really can't say I've had any problems until December 2021 - got covid and had 3 nasty colds (one needed antibiotics) - so I think my question is ....... is this normal or am i just being unlucky at the moment?!

Anyone any thoughts please? I've read up on the type of treatments I've had and nothing suggests lasting  immune problems!

Thank you Jaxs

  • I think lock down has impacted all our immune systems as we've not been exposed to germs as we've isolated . Have you spoken to your GP

  • I'm on exemesatne and one of the side effects is lowered white blood count. I have had 2 separate infections (both and UTI) that needed antibiotics within about 4 months of each other so I do think these drugs can lower your immune response.  I think I've had antibiotics twice in my whole life before then (I'm in my mid-40s).

Both of these infections came on after spells of being more busy than usual so I think my immune system is not able to cope well with strain just now.

I also had chemo, so thought the first infection may have been as I was still recovering but second infection was a year after I finished chemo . I guess it could still be that but it also makes sense that if I have a lowered white blood count then i may not be able to defend infections so well.

I don't think the drugs significantly lower white blood counts but might just be enough to not cope so well if your body is really stressed.

I think once you get a cold, then you're already low so the next one comes a long and you get it!

I'm pretty sure you are right - lock-down has done us no favours. Nurse appointment booked for blood tests then see GP.Sneezing faceThermometer faceMask

Thank you for replying - think you're probably right, have been stressed out lately and as you say stress and lowered resistance. Sunglasses
