I was diagnosed with breast cancer just over a week ago and am so scared. I have an MRI scan tomorrow, a PICC line being inserted next Wednesday and then starting chemo next Friday every week for over 5 months prior to surgery. I don’t know whether to have my hair cut short and if to do anything about my eyebrows prior to starting treatment (sorry if this sounds a bit pathetic). Everything is going round and round in my head
Good morning,
Firstly, hang in there, you are not alone and this chat forum is full of so much optimism, hope, support and success stories.
I am reasonably new here too, I have found it to be a comfort even knowing we are all in this unwanted journey together . You got this.
I am 2 cycles of EC and trying cold cap, my hair started thinning recently but I am hanging with cold cap for a while longer, if the thinning slows then I’ll try to keep going, it is quite uncomfortable but bearable. I have wig fitting on 25th, so will see where that takes me,
All I can offer at this stage is take it one day at a time, you’re braver and stronger than you will ever know.
xx K xx
Hello Debbie, welcome ,I'm just finished my chemo, I had 6 cycles over 5 months, 3 EC and 3 Docetaxel my hair fell out a lot just before starting 2nd cycle, I had rest if my hair shaved off day before 2nd cycle and had a lovely wig fitted by macmillan, best thing I done as the pain of your actual head during it is horrible. I bought a second long wig for the days I want to or actually feel like dressing up, I bought eyebrow stencils from Avon, just place over eyebrow and draw or fill in with powder, wedding next week so I need false lashes, and a little tip from another girl is to wear dark coloured nail polish to protect your nails , Take care, big hugs xx
Hi Debbie,
It's such a lot to take in. Sending you warmest wishes. I just want to share a link to a lovely charity that offers support with hair loss. I cut my hair short before chemo and then shaved it very short when it started to come out. This was the best route for me, but it's so personal what feels right. Here's the link in case it's helpful. www.cancerhaircare.co.uk/.../
Thank you so much. I think I will try and get my hair cut short this week prior to starting chemo. It is all so much to take in. Take care x
