Hi, just wanted to say hello as new on here. Mums been diagnosed with ovarian and pertineal cancer. We have a treatment plan which will start soon.
She suffering alot with acid, shes eating small meals and often but we seem to be struggling getting gaviscon tablets on perscription even though uou can buy them over the counter! Shes struggling taking the liquid form.
Has anyone got any recommendations to help with acid, shes sick all the time and its heartbreaking.
Doctors arent very helpful at the local gp!
Hello Baw70. For some reason your post showed up on the breast cancer forum rather than on the ovarian cancer forum, so I am not sure how much experience people here may have with the issues your mother is facing.
However, since she is now no doubt in contact with the oncology team, ask them to refer her to a dietician so that she can get the best professional advice. They will likely be happy to do so, considering she already has a background of struggling with food and is now facing cancer treatment. They should also be able to prescribe Gaviscon or something else directly, so that you no longer have to deal with the GP. This would be a good idea also so that all of her meds come from one source rather than from two sources who are not always aware of what the other one is doing. Her oncologist should be kept informed of all the medications she is taking, whether or not they are prescribed, and of any supplements if she is taking or about to take any, so that they can verify them as ok to take while on her treatment.
You can also ask for a referral to a specialist so they can take a look and see what is causing the acid in the first place. This too can be done via her oncology team.
Hi
I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. As GreyCats has said, for some reason your post has appeared on the breast cancer forum. Here's the link for the Ovarian Cancer Forum, if you just want to join this group and cut and paste your question on there, hopefully you should get someone who's got experience of the troubles your Mum has been having and be able to help you.
Kindest Wishes, Lesley
