Hi Everyone,
I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer I am 34 so it came as a bit of a shock as all the doctors and consultants that felt my lump kept saying its highly unlikely because of your age but here we are.
I'm not always fhe best at putting my words onto paper but here is my story. I found a small pea size lump in my breast and my doctor referred me to the breast clinic. From there they did an ultra sound and then asked if I would mind having a mammagram as they don't usually like to do then under the age of 35 after I had that it was back round to the first room where they took 2 biopsies from the breast and again back round tk the mammagram as they placed something in the spot of the lump and wanted to make sure it was in place.
A week and half later I was called back in to see the consultant to be told unfortunately it was breast cancer and it was being caused from the oestrogen (I apologise if its not all medically correct with the wording I went in on my own lol)
I had my MRI last Thursday and originally was told my appointment for my results would be the day after. The MRI for me was rhe scariest part before hand as I'm claustrophobic however, the doctor gave me something to take and thankfully your lying face down so you couldn't even tell if you were in the machine or not. At 4pm that evening I got a call to say my appointment for tomorrow was being cancelled and I was get a new one.
On Friday I found out my appointment isn't until the 20th now which sucks. I called and spoke to one of the nurses who said they will be discussing my case on Wednesday so I could try and call Thursdsy to see if I can either get an earlier appointment or at least find out some information.
Originally the consultant said it would probably be a case of a lumpectomy and then radiotherapy however, I've been reading quite a few people were told the same and then suggest chemo first so I'm just trying to keep busy till I know a bit more.
The one thing j really want to do from this though is use my experience to encourage women to check their breasts and get checked out regularly. I am documenting my journey so it makes a rubbish situation a little better.
Sorry for the essay but would be great to connect with other people going through the same thing. X
Hi April. I have just been diagnosed too and I’m 42.
I have a similar start as you and I was told lumpectomy and radiotherapy as well, followed by hormone treatment as I am er+.
I haven’t been offered an mri which seems odd as nearly everyone else on here seems to have had an mri as their next step after diagnosis, so this is something I want to check with my nurse.
I hope that the outcome of your mri is ok, and good luck with your treatment.
Hi sorry to hear you are at the same stage as me. Yes it's definitely worth going over everything woth your nurse. I know when they did my ultra sound before I was diagnosed I had a few lumps under my arm pit but she put it down to being the same arm I've had my covid jabs in as she said it can cause this but hopefully rhe MRI will show up if I do have any more lumps then I believe I may have to have a biopsy on tjem as well.
They give you so much information at the beginning it's hard to remember everything. My consultant kept telling me bits and then would say but don't worry about that yet I'll explain that more when .
What did your consultant say your next step would be? Did you find a lump or was it picked up a different way. How are you doing? Xx
Hi April,I was diagnosed on Wednesday, chemo first for me then lumpectomy, just waiting to see my oncologist.
The mammogram showed mine,i do check but wouldent of found it.
I find the waiting is the hardest, and in the middle of the night i get terrified.
Happy to chat and share my journey.
Well done on getting checked out and im sorry you find yourself here, its a scary time, try and stay positive, even though its damn hard x
Wow. I definitely agree the waiting is so hard. I just wish I knew my treatment and just get on with it. Waiting till the 20th just seems so far away but trying to focus on other things until I know more.
Feel free to message any time. I'm not sure if you use social media much but if you do feel free to add me on insta @aprillanefitness as this is where I am trying to document my journey ️ wishing you all the best on your journey. Xxx
Hi, also recently diagnosed with bc. Lumpectomy, reconstruction and axillary nose clearance booked for end of the month. Following that will likely be radiotherapy and hormone blocking tablets. Definitely finding the waiting hard. Trying to keep busy by preparing for post surgery. Thinking of you and everyone else going through similar. x
Thanks April. I hope you are doing ok too.
my next step is a lumpectomy and removal of a couple of lymph nodes, which is booked for the beginning of May.
I actually went in about a lump in my right breast which turned out to be a cyst, but during the course of the checks they picked up the cancer in my left breast. The cancer didn’t show on the mammogram but it did show on the ultrasound. The cancer is quite small (about 1cm) and deep within my breast tissue so it’s not possible to feel it yet. They hope because it is small and picked up early that we will be able to clear it without needing chemo, so the plan at the moment - lumpectomy, radiotherapy and then 5 years of hormone therapy. I know plans sometimes change after the lumpectomy but I am keeping my fingers crossed it is as simple as that.
I am sorry to read you have to wait so long to find out your plan. Fingers crossed it is simple too!!
I found out on Wednesday too.
I am not sleeping either - I keep waking in the early hours and get caught in a bleak thought spiral.
Good luck with your journey. Do you know when you start your chemo?
Sorry to hear that Lilac moon that sounds stressful but good that they are seeking second options for you. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
