Hi all

Where to start. I am 53 and  My family have a history of breast cancer. Both mam aunt and gran have had either lumpsectomy or double mastectomy. Up until 3 years ago I had received 3/4 mammograms over 3/4 years. All clear

my recent mammogram 2 weeks ago  has picked up calcifications that is all I know so far I’ve been requested to attend a Thomo scan on Monday and a likely biopsy I was informed. Feeling anxious and worried.
I can deal with breast removal if that is required just more worried about the lymph nodes also having calcifications as I don’t k ow at present where they have been found

feeling worried  I know a lot more people on this site are going through a lot more anxiety than me  just reaching out a bit

Bless you. Try not to overthink it. Just deal with what you know for now. I know it is easy to say but no point worrying until you know you need to. You are in good hands. XX

  • I would ask for genetic testing, to see if you have a mutation in any of the genes that are associated with breast cancer running through families. If such an alteration is found, there are preventative steps that can be taken. This would apply not only for the carrier of the mutation, but would include their families, especially offspring, who would then be eligible to get tested for the gene alteration too, so that they can take any preventative steps if needed and they want to.

I believe that your family history alone makes you eligible, best to check with the breast team.

As for the anxiety, someone else's worse situation does not make our own experience any better or have any less effect. The initial period of waiting is, for many of us, the worst. Do you have a date for an appointment to get the results from all the tests, and the diagnosis?

  • Hi

thank you. I did ask about the genetic testing and filled in paperwork 3 year ago but was not found eligible as they had no  connection to my aunt and gran in paperwork.

butvi was also suffering last year with a dry cough that wouldn’t go away and after 6 months I received an mri which showed up bronchuectasis   Yet still they didn’t mention breast screening also. As my previous all clear was 2019

im just a bit apprehensive that the coughing had also something to do now with my latest results

I’ve been told I’m in for biopsy on Monday and a 3d image  and should be a week for results

    thank you

  • The current form I have seen in use asks about family history and has room to mention mother, grandmothers, aunts, and a lot more. It may be a good idea to bring this up newly with the breast team and ask to be referred again based on the complete and current family history and situation.

  • I def will. Thank you
