I was diagnosed last December and had a lumpectomy in January and now need a mastectomy, which is booked in for April.
The waiting is the worst for me.  Life has returned to normal after the last surgery, Having young children is a blessing in that there’s not much time to dwell on it, but every so often the gremlins get in and I’m floored by the enormity of what having cancer means.
It would be nice to chat with others on the rollercoaster of emotions.

  • Hi Loubelou

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Wishing you the best of luck with the operation in April.

  • Hi. So sorry gor your diagnosis.  I had a lumpectomy last October and a single mastectomy last November.  Had lymph nodes removed too. I now have a silicone prosthesis which gives me a bit more confidence.  The emotions that you go through are normal.  I went through denial, grief and my depression increased  but I have a great family and very supportive friends.  You'll get through this. There's a group on Facebook called blessing box.  If you message them with your date of surgery and address they will send you a box of goodies. The pillow that they sent specially for mastectomy patients was a godsend.  Xxxx

  • Hi Loubelou

I had DCIS and in Oct had a lumpectomy and then in November last year has a single mastectomy and lymph nodes removed . I currently have a silicone prosthesis which has improved my confidence.  I have to wait a year before I can have reconstructive surgery.  But yeah all the emotions I went through were crazy. I still have bad days but I have a great family and supportive friends. You can do this hunni. I'm 53 btw. Xxx

Thank you Bettyboop, I’m going to take it day by day now, and just accept it as it comes.  You sound so positive! It’s going to be ok I’m sure. X
