Hi, new to the Group with the above diagnosis. Surgery (mastectomy) scheduled for early April. Feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment!, although fairly calm. I'm sure I will have lots of questions ....eventually!
Hi AliAliO and welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about you Breast Cancer diagnosis. A cancer diagnosis can be a very stressful and challenging time for you but I do hope you find the community a safe place to get support and ask your questions.
The New to Community is like our reception desk where you can be signpost to our various cancer support groups and other services.
I see you have already joined our supportive Breast cancer group. This will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green link I have created above. Then once the page opens you can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go.
You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post and as always you can reply to existing ‘Discussions’ by click [reply].
The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear. You may also find our Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.
To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section.
Talking to people face to face when on a cancer journey (patient or family) can be very helpful but during these strange times it’s not that available but do check to see if any Local Macmillan Support in your area has opened up. Do also check out for a local Maggie's Centre in your area as these folks are amazing and provide support for all the family.
Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.
All the very best ((hugs))
Hey Mike, nice seeing you here
AliAlio, welcome to the forum. It can take a while to process and digest it all. Are you having a reconstruction?
Hi GreyCats, I have to say that I am slightly confused as to how I ended up putting up this post as it looks like I replied to AliAlios post as if it was in the New to Community. I even had to join the Breast Group just to put up this reply to you, but things happen
I hope you are doing well.
Happy coincidence, Mike, and my guess is that the moderators may have moved the thread, but who knows. Where is the New to Community forum? I thought each forum had their own and that was that.
You gave AliAliO great information, and I am very pleased it's on the forum right here because this will be useful for many who do not check elsewhere in the community.
Hi GreyCats,
I think I may have moved response accidentally as I tried to copy and paste my comment over
I'm not having reconstruction, don't see any need for additional surgery at almost 57 years of age, and I will be comfortable with a variety of outfit co-ordinating prostheses (if thats' a word?)
Hi, I wasn't really given any info apart from if you are going to have bc, this is a better one. I didnt really ask tbh, my focus was/is more about what I need to do to get over it, rather than having a label. However, after surgery, diagnosis changed although I still only ask what do I need to do next. Ax
Hi, My diagnosis is Breast Cancer (pT2N2) ER positive and HER2 negative. I am currently receiving adjuvant chemotherapy (EC-T). Two sessions down, 4 to go. Mastectomy and recovery from surgery was the easy bit. Taking a day at a time and trying to be nice to myself to get through this.
Have you been given advice/information on your treatment plan as yet? Ax
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
