    Thank you

  • Hi Lou, I had a mastectomy in October. I found the reality of having it done much less horrifying than the thought of it. It has been much better than I’d expected. I hope your experience will be the same. The breast care nurses and district nurses were great and really helpful.

    I'm a Lou too!

I had my mastectomy and axillary clearance just under 3 weeks ago.

Get yourself a heart pillow it really helps with getting comfortable and traveling. Pillow Pals on fb send them out free of charge although a donation to cover postage is very much appreciated.

Make sure you also do the exercises religiously.

    Hi

Sorry to hear you will need a mastectomy. Had mine in November. I was scared particularly the night before and could not sleep. The actual day I was exhausted and had to wait with no food for nearly 13 hours before my surgery. The op itself went better than in expected. You will be so dosed up you prob won't feel any pain.

My first reaction was coming round and sobbing, so mentally and emotionally it hit me harder than the physical recovery. Remember to keep dry the wound area and do those prescribed arm exercises. Have to say from diagnosis to op day I could not sleep well. But after op...best sleep ever each night...u will find the strength in you and listen to your body during recovery.

For now prep and get your body in best shape possible. I bought front opening bra and clothes as it will help. It should be a day patient care but I was kept overnight as I didn't come out till 7pm! If allowed have someone with u. I wasn't due to covid.

Anything else u need to know, just ask. But your bcn will explain everything. We are here for moral support for sure.

    Take care xx

    Cx

  • I had a mastectomy in November, 3rd surgery in under 11 weeks. What is it you are terrified of? If you tell us, perhaps we can share more of our experiences that are relevant to that, or give you other information that might help.
