Diary keeping

Does anyone keep a diary? I do, of basic daily things and appointments of course but more importantly for me, my diet and when I take imodium. As I have no gall bladder and only a partial Large bowel, it reminds me that I need to be careful not to eat those things which I enjoyed in the past but can no longer.  especially sweet things and I used to have a very sweet tooth. It's amazing how we can adapt with perseverance, as I now get more natural sugars from the food I can eat. Although I have to keep away from some salads and high fibre it's good to try different things we maybe didn't eat once upon a time but our tastes change and we can adapt. Hope this is of some help to someone! I find keeping a diary very useful.

  • Hi, I don't keep a regular diary, but I did throughout my treatment and it was invaluable at helping me to remember what had happened, especially during each chemo cycle.

  • Thanks Jeanne

I don’t but wish I did like Irishgirl.  My friend  had breast cancer a few years back and she just reeks of the dates of appointments, biopsies and surgeries but I just don’t retain that info as the months go by.  I’ve added details to my bio on here though so I can revisit it later on if need be.  I start chemo tomorrow though and will definitely begin a diary to keep a note of how I’m feeling and any side effects.

  • Actually I take that back Rofl I did update my bio with more details and months a little while ago but doesn’t look like I’ve saved it - oh my poor brain!!

  • I'm the same as Irishgirl16, I kept one during chemo and found it invaluable to look back on for all the cycles to see when I would feel better, or that I had felt the same last cycle.

I recommend keeping one to everyone on here going through chemo!

I don't keep a regular diary though. I tried a food one in the past but I found it took a lot of time and I didn't really need it, unlike you where it would be so valuable.

  • Hi

I found a chemo diary invaluable back in 2019 and have kept up with it thru Herceptin and now bisphosphonates . A routine of symptoms soon appears which means you can plan treats for good days .

Also did bio on profile .
    Best wishes

  • Hi Jeanne L, I do and I've started to journal how I feel too. It really helps ,not only so that I can keep track of what appointments I have etc but also how I'm feeling. It definitely helps to get it all out on paper instead of bottling it all up inside if I'm feeling anxious or worried which does appear to be most days at the moment. My stepdaughter gave me a Legend Planner as part of my Christmas present it's good but quite challenging and not for everyone. Best wishes x

  • We all get a chemo diary, don't we? I've kept mine but sometimes it was difficult to write without sounding off! Plus my handwriting's not that good, I've typed for so long! I also keep another dairy tho, got one for 2022 and make a note of my diet, drinks and bowel movements Flushed Not at all like the diary's I've previously kept Blush Be interesting reading for someone some day!!
