New to all of this and, if in all honesty, didn’t know what to do or if I wanted to talk about it but people saying talking can help. I got diagnosed with breast cancer in November after I noticed a change in my breast. Everything was a whirlwind from getting the diagnosis, having CT and MRI scans and seeing my oncologist. It was discussed and he said my best treatment going forward was Chemotherapy, Surgery, Radiotherapy and then Hormone Therapy. They want to try and reduce the size of my lump, it’s 5.5cm and attached itself to the bottom of my breast wall and also have cancer cells in my lymph nodes under my arm. I started chemotherapy two days before my 50th birthday! I’m having FACT x8 sessions every three weeks. My first session was hard, just the fact that you have to go on your own due to Covid. I started to notice around 16 days later slight hair loss but not too dramatic. My second round was horrible. I suffered with the last set of drugs going in with really bad headaches, eyes stinging and a really horrible feeling in my nose. I was also told they reduced one of my drugs slightly due to a low liver function. The day after chemo my hair just came out in masses, it was so heartbreaking and cried so much, still coming out and lost around 60/70% already after two treatments and I have been using the cold cap since my first treatment. Today should have been round three but this got cancelled due to my immune system being below the levels required. They even made me have another blood test yesterday to see but they had dropped again. I feel so deflated, I just want to get it all over and done with and it just seems there’s always something wrong and I’m not even half way through.
sorry for waffling on
Hello D71 , welcome to a place you never thought you'd be in. Everyone is so helpful on here and caring as we are all in the same boat. And you can never waffle enough, I only turned 50 last February and by August I was diagnosed with breast cancer grade 3 stage 2 ,17mm lump lymph node free..was supposed to have my surgery on the 7th of December but I tested positive for covid and it was then delayed until 31st of October I then had to have 2 surgery's 31st October and 14November, then i had my first chemo on the 23rd of December..I was to have it the week before but ended up with a chest infection..so as you say there's always somethingto knock you back and can be frustrating, you just want to sail through it. I noticed the other day in the shower that my public hair is coming away. I'm sure it won't be long til my head hair starts..my head feels tender and itchy..I'm due my second round next Thursday..we'll get there eventually .i love to knit and sew as I'm a dressmaker it takes my mind off things for a while.. xx
No need to apologise - you're safe here. We're all going though our own processes, and it helps to know we're not alone in how we feel. Sending you much needed hugs. I'm still in the surgery/post surgery testing phase. Not sure when chemo will start yet. I've read on many threads for those going through chemo, the chemo group is an amazing place to get support. I'm still getting my head around everything else that's happened to me just now since my diagnosis late September. Wishing you all the very best as you progress through this road less travelled.
When you're going through hell, don't stop!
Hi D71, sorry you’re having such a rough time, I turned 50 halfway through my chemo in October, not the way we envisaged that milestone is it?? It is brutal and I completely understand your frustration at not being able to just get on with it. You will get there though, it stretched out ahead of me in July when I started but I’m done now and it’s behind me, you will get there. Don’t be hard in yourself, I’ve shed many a tear getting through this, better out than in or you just make yourself worse. Big virtual hugs xx
