Hi everyone - I was diagnosed at the beginning of this month with stage 1 grade 2 breast cancer which is ER & PR positive but HER2 negative. I had lumpectomy & sentinel node biopsies on 17th Nov & am now anxiously waiting 3-4 weeks for my results. I know I need radiotherapy & then hormone treatment but chemo unknown.
Im 51, exercise 4-5 times a week & never had any serious illness & Im struggling to come to terms with being a patient & taking time off work.
I know my prognosis is probably excellent & some of you will be dealing with much more serious versions of this disease and I'm trying to stay positive.
My main concern today is the amount of discomfort from my lymph biopsy site & I have a horrible suspicion I'm developing cording as I can see what looks like a cord today. I will contact my breast nurse on Monday for advice if it’s still there & I'm doing my exercises religiously, but I gather there isn't much else can be done at this stage. If anyone has any other advice it would be great.
Sending positive vibes to you all & I guess as my journey progresses I'll be on here looking for more support going forwards.
Hello. You sound very similar to me - click my name to read my tale. I know they don't want to be negative but I do wish they had been more up front with me about the pain and discomfort i would have afterwards. Not just surgery but radiotherapy. Boob tissue does not like to be messed with and like me, they've removed sentinel nodes which are hard to get to. then you have to consider the drugs they give you whilst under. Your system needs a few weeks to adjust and flush it out your system. I suspect I had cording after surgery but as armpit was quite numb I didn't notice. However rads has made it more obvious and i have a swollen armpit too. Physio is keeping an eye out on me. Anyway, sorry for waffling. advice - keep doing the exercises, moisturise well, be kind to yourself and take each day as it comes. good luck x
