just wondering if anyone has had a similar procedure and whether it’s normal to still feel discomfort and pain around the flap area. I have been scanned and told there is nothing sinister to worry about, but advised to take paracetamol and ibuprofen. Referral for some physio too as still struggling to get into some of my yoga postures. Is this normal?

  • Hi , I had my LICAP op 19 months ago and I also still have some pain around the flap and find it difficult to sleep on that side.  It’s been like that since the operation and I wonder if it’s to do with the amount of nerves that were disturbed.  I also have too much flap on the outside ie beneath my armpit and at some point I’m going to ask for revision surgery as the extra bulk is very annoying and might be contributing to why I can’t lie on it.  The pain’s not enough to warrant painkillers but I’m hoping it goes eventually!

I don’t have any movement restrictions as I try to keep doing my post-radiotherapy exercises regularly.  I’d be interested to find out if the pain is a common issue post flap surgery.  I guess as we don’t get follow-ups with our surgeons long term that they might not have the statistics.

Hope you manage to get some relief with physio.

  • Thanks for that. Yes I have a ‘dogs ear’ as they call it too. My surgeon said they could operate again but wasn’t keen yet. I get annual reviews with her so will bring it up in February. I can’t sleep on that side either. The pain is manageable, but like you I think there has been some nerve damage. I’m finding the ibuprofen gel quite good along with a 3 min massage.
