Hi everyone. Nice to meet you all. Hope your all doing okay. After my first routine breast screening I was diagnosed with Grade 2 Breast CA. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node removal and biopsy last week. I’m sore, swollen, numb and can feel the nerve pain kicking in now as well as restricted movement but doing all the exercises. I don’t need Chemo thankfully. I will need radiotherapy and hormone treatment medication. I’ve to see the oncologist at the beginning of July so hopefully this is when my radiotherapy can get underway. I feel very fortunate that things were detected so quickly and everything has been dealt with so efficiently. I feel a bit of a fraud because other than pain etc from surgery I feel well!!
Hi Bettyboo66
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Radiotherapy usually starts about five weeks after surgery. There's a radiotherapy thread in the diagnosis and treatment section of this forum where you will find others going through Radiotherapy who will only be too happy to answer any questions you have about radiotherapy.
Best of luck with your oncologist appointment and with radiotherapy.
Best wishes

Hi Bettyboo66,
sorry to hear you’ve been diagnosed. I am in the same situation as you. Early stage, lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. Only difference was I had to have full axillary node clearance due to one of the sentinel being positive. Luckily they were all clear so only need radiotherapy and tamoxifen. Awaiting my CT scan and date to start treatment. I have felt well In myself too other than soreness, pain and was very swollen after second surgery. Not sure what to expect from radiotherapy.
Hope you treatment starts soon and it all goes well.

Hi Bettyboo66 and another warm welcome to the forum. Your case sounds very similar to mine, it’s now 2 and a half years since my op and I’m on hormone therapy too - anastrozole as I’m post menopausal. Well done for doing all the exercises, they really do help. Someone has already mentioned the radiotherapy thread in the Diagnosis and treatments section, good for tips and sharing experiences. I am mainly to be found on the Walking back to Happiness thread as walking’s been my sanity saver! Good luck with the rest of your treatments, HFxx
Hi
how are you feeling now? I was diagnosed with breast cancer grade 2 two weeks ago today and had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy taken yesterday. The plan is radiotherapy then hormone treatment. Would you all say that you felt better just after the operation then as everything calms the pain, tiredness and discomfort comes out more? I m feeling ok at the moment just wonder what’s coming? Thanks
Hi Pops39
I didn’t feel too tired after my lumpectomy and had very little pain and if I did I took painkillers which were prescribed to me after my op. I did find with radiotherapy that I tired easily after each treatment, the more treatment I had the more tired I became. Depending on where the beam will be directed you may get a sore throat. The radiotherapy may cause redness on the treatment area but it’s nothing to worry about. The radiotherapy team will talk you through any possible side effects you may have from radiotherapy.
Wishing you the best of luck with your radiotherapy when you have it.
Best wishes
