Hi everyone,

It has taken me a bit of time to come on here (makes it feel real). I can’t believe at 34 I’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer. I found my lump when myself and my partner were trying for a baby. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to do fertility treatment before I started chemotherapy so I am hoping the goserline injection is going to help preserve things.

I am relieved that there is this fabulous support as sometimes friends and family just don’t quite get it.  I try to put a brave face on , especially for my parents but it is so hard.
I am sure it will become easier to cope with and it’s just about taking time for myself which I plan on doing.

  • Hi I know not same type of cancer but I’m here if you ever need to chat girl anytime it’s a cruel diease a little bit about me so hard to even take in all in at the min but start of September I gave birth to my beautiful baba girl who is now 8 months old I have two older boys 11/17 a lone parent finally thought my dreams all came through my little perfect family . Few months later I was diagnosed with Crohn’s diease had been suffering on off for years wit symptoms now on steroids was just about to start biological treatment for the Crohn’s when I felt lump left breast in the shower the day after my auntie had her left breast removed due to cancer . I went straight to my GP was seen in the city hospital Northern Ireland 2 weeks later had mammogram scan and biopsy and they confirmed there and then that was  grade 2 invasive ductal breast cancer NST in left breast sensitive to hormone oestrogen and is HER2 Negative. I go tomorrow Thursday for wire to be in then go on this Friday 28th for a left therapeutic mammoplasty and sentinel lymph node biopsy and right breast reduction all done in the same day thankfully I was worried wud have to come back later date for it , as of my age 35 he wants to get them both looking the same .    So  I just had my surgery Friday morning which was  left therapeutic mammoplasty and sentinel lymph node biopsy and right breast reduction lift & tuck on both breast No drains in just peco dressing as I have Crohn’s so infectious etc hopefully.    Now to rest and heal and wait 10 days for results to see what treatment I will need etc . Sending you lots of love and hugs xx

  • Hi Supernoodles,

So sorry to hear you’ve been diagnosed with BC. Must be really difficult when you were planning for a family too.

I think the emotional side can be as hard, or harder, than the physical side. We want to put a brave face on it but can’t do it all the time.

It’s taken me a while to actually get counselling (through Macmillan) but it is definitely helping. I know that Breast Cancer Now can put you in touch with someone who has been in a similar situation to you. It might be worth contacting them. Or even your GP. We think we can always talk to family but sometimes it’s easier to talk to someone who’s a bit more removed from the situation.

Are you starting chemo soon? You can get some great tips on managing SE etc on the April/May chemo thread.

    Wishing you all the best.

Thank you so much for replying. I completely agree, the emotional side for me is much harder than the physical. I didn’t know about Breast Cancer Now, I will definitely get in touch with them as I think this is something I would benefit from.

I started my chemo in April, they wanted me to get started as soon as possible, hence why we didn’t have time to do fertility. I get my 3rd round of EC on Thursday. Touch wood…I have been okay with it. A bit constipated at times and a little tired for a couple of days but other than that I have been fine.

    Thank you so much again.

  • Hi Supernoodles,

There is support out there but it’s not always easy to find. I’ve been using meditation and sleep apps too.

Glad to hear that you have minimal SE with chemo. Makes it much easier.

    All the best.
