Hi, I saw the consultant yesterday to discuss my Cancer treatment. As it's stage 2 he can operate to remove.

The day before I have to have Dye radiation under armpit to see if cancer has spread thru lymph nodes so he knows if needed to be removed during op.

It's scaring the hell out of me as I have recovered ok from a major Lung Cancer op 3 and a bit years ago. Everyone says I'm strong but this is a new blow I did not expect.

Also recommended hormone treatment afterwards.  Would be glad to hear from anyone who has gone thru similar.

  • Hi Sharon,

I’m not sure what all the criteria for a lumpectomy are. I know my tumour has shrunk, from previous MRI and a physical examination by my breast surgeon. I have 2 tumours but they are close together and that’s why a lumpectomy can be considered.

My surgeon said that the chance of recurrence is the same whether you have a lumpectomy or mastectomy as long as they get good margins.

    Wishing you well for tomorrow.

  • Hi what was your clinical reason for your mri please

    Thank you x

  • Hi doesn't there have to be a clinical reason for an mri, do you know pls xx

  • Hi bluebell Woods

Seen my consultant today, I am stage 1 grade 2, so caught early.  I have a busy breast, because by my nipple area I have a small area of dcis 12mm   then about 5cm above it I have the invasive area, he said its small, about 1cm but I an having an mri, so they can get a better picture and sizing.  I have large breasts, so they are looking at theraputic mammoplasty.  I did ask some questions about this, but you have been so helpful have you any advice pls.  I am waiting my Her result

    Thank you xxx

  • Hi Shaz,

That’s great that they have caught it early.

Sorry, I’ve not had surgery yet, and am not sure what procedure I’ll be getting, so can’t offer any advice.

I am preparing though by buying front fastening clothing and bras. I’ve ordered a mastectomy/lumpectomy pillow from a website called Jen’s Friends. I’ve also bought some padded car seat belt covers. There will, no doubt, be other ways you can prepare too.

My surgeon has ordered the MRI as she wants a detailed scan of my breast and lymph nodes before surgery.

  • Thank you bluebell, yh he showed it me on my mammogram, advised its small, I cannot still feel it, he could not give me a proper size, but advised about 1cm, I understand mri more sensitive, so do you think it will show it much bigger. Having mri to see if they can do a lumpectomy or theraputic mammoplasty instead of masectomy would you wait to see if this was still possible if you was me. Just nagging at me that mri will show it much bigger xx

  • Hi Shaz,

I would definitely waiting until after the MRI. The surgeon will have a much better picture of your tumour. I know it’s very worrying but it’s much better to know and will allow your surgeon to give you the best possible treatment.

I’m no expert but I don’t think it will show it as much bigger. My main lump was 4cm and I could feel it. Chemo has shrunk it and I can not feel it now, which is great .

  • Hi bluebell Woods, I am waiting for my plastics appt now so can move forward with masectomy with reconstruction. Only things troubling me, is he advised its small, thats positive but no precise sizing, I am grade 2  I assume he would know if its big or small from my images xxx

  • Hi Shaz,

It’s great you now have a plan and an appointment to discuss. The surgeon will be able to tell you exactly what he’s going to do. Are you having an immediate reconstruction? Have you had an MRI?

  • Hi bluebell Woods, yh I am having immediate reconstruction  so what I know so far is I have a lump I cannot feel, showed as breast distortion on my mammogram, nothing showed on ultrasound, it's grade 2 hormone positive, I am awaiting Her, and consultant advised from  my imaging its small and scan on lymph nodes was fine. I am currently waiting to hear for an appointment from plastics.. how would you be reading this information pls xx
